Fellow Citizens,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me to serve as your county commissioner. I decided to run for City Council, county commissioner and most recently state representative because I feel a duty to give back to the vibrant community which has given me so much. The goal of any elected official should be to leave their community better than they found it.  I feel as though I have done that at the county level and hope to continue to do so at the state level. My way of giving back to the county came in the form of ensuring that Washtenaw County residents remained safe and county employees’ retirement was protected while helping to create the most efficient and streamlined government possible.  Working with my fellow commissioners, road patrol was made more effective by creating a committee and going over the process line by line. We worked together to reinvent our strategy for the retirement board to ensure that county employees would be able to retire. Lastly, balancing the budget and creating a more efficient government was something that I knew had to be accomplished in order to better the county.  When Washtenaw was faced with a $30 million budget gap in 2010, my fellow commissioners gathered with county leaders and union heads in order to get input from all levels. The end result was a balanced budget passed in a bipartisan manner and a streamlined county government. Washtenaw County is a wonderful place to live and raise a family, but it can be better. That is my goal, to make this county which is home to bustling cities and bucolic countryside the best place possible. I thank you for sharing your lives with me for the past six years and am eager to continue to represent you in Lansing.
